A third-generation, family-owned estate acquired by Lithuanian immigrant Charles Back in 1937, Fairview has evolved under the stewardship of his grandson into an internationally recognised destination for wine, cheese and agri-tourism, while remaining a working farm. Today, it is home to complementary artisanal micro-businesses producing wines, cheeses, baked goods and innovative plant-based products.
Visitors are welcomed by the enchanting, walled Goat Tower, an iconic landmark adored by children and adults alike and home to Fairview’s beloved goats since 1981.
Fairview Tasting Room and Wines
A stroll through the gardens leads to the renowned tasting room, where barrel-shaped stations and knowledgeable wine ambassadors create a relaxed, social experience. Tastings are paired with Fairview’s celebrated cow’s and goat’s milk cheeses, while the Beryl Back Master Tasting Room offers seated, tutored tastings of flagship wines. Younger visitors can enjoy a fun Kids Tasting with milder cheeses and a sweet treat.
Fairview’s portfolio spans around 50 wines, from reds and whites to blends, rosé, dessert wines and Cap Classique. From the Goats do Roam range to heritage bottlings, the wines reflect diverse Cape terroirs, with Shiraz remaining the signature variety.

Fairview Deli, Bakery and Cheese
Next door, the Fairview Deli and Bakery offers artisanal cheeses, charcuterie, preserves, olives and olive oils, along with fresh breads and pastries made using Fairview’s own wheat. The plant-based range includes cheeses, yoghurts and ice creams. Fairview remains one of South Africa’s leading artisanal cheese producers.

Fairview Goatshed Restaurant
The Goatshed offers relaxed, seasonal farm-to-table dining with Mediterranean-inspired dishes made from farm-grown or locally sourced ingredients. Guests can dine indoors, on the veranda or beneath the vine-covered pergola overlooking the Goat Tower, with a dedicated kiddies’ menu making it a firm family favourite.
